Isn't it every family's dream to go camping in the month of January in the snow?!!! The new year brought with it an unexpected trip to Michigan to visit Daddy Brad's parents, Mimi and Papa. They had been planning a trip down to Georgia to visit us in March, but when Papa received word that he was facing more surgery because of recurring cancer, we knew that the March trip wasn't going happen. It had been some time since we had seen them, and in God's providence, Tom had a week of vacation beginning January 8th. We didn't have to think twice about what we needed to do!
We decided that the easiest (?!) way to transport our family of 6 along with 3 of our 4 poochies was to load up the RV trailer with everything that we needed for a week. We would be stopping often because Luke would need to be fed every couple of hours, so the journey up there would have to be spread over two days.
Christian sat in the front seat while Andrew, Sarah and Baxter got comfortable in the back seat of the Excursion;
Sarah occupied herself with her Game Boy and books;
Teddy nestled down in his bed on the floor;
and Luke and I occupied the two captains chairs in the middle. Are we there yet?
We stopped for the night at a Wal-Mart in Lexington, KY. Can you say COLD??!!!!! Temps were in the 20's with ice and snow on the ground. Tom got the generator going on the trailer to give us some heat, and we didn't waste any time crawling into our beds beneath mounds of covers. Luke was the only one who wasn't phased by the cold. We kept him bundled up good! He lay in bed with Andrew while I got ready for bed, and then he slept snuggled up against me for the night. At 4:45 a.m., Tom and I awoke to the sound of the generator sputtering, and then it died. He jumped out of bed and said that we needed to get moving quick because that was the end of the heat! We were back on the road by 5:30 a.m. and were so thankful for the heat in the Excursion! Outside temps were in the negative numbers!
