Our Wonderful Vacation is Coming to an End

We left Jim and Lila's Wednesday and stopped for the night at a campground in Mount Vernon, Kentucky. As we were getting ready to pull out this morning, Tom noticed a bulge on one of the trailer tires. Good eye Honey! Thank you for keeping us safe!

If you click on the picture, you can see the bulge on the lower right side. Tom had the tire changed lickity-split, and then we were on our way!

Shortly after we got on the interstate, we rounded a corner and noticed a golden retriever prancing around on the right shoulder. Knowing he didn't stand a chance on his own, Tom pulled over on the shoulder as soon as he could safely do so. I jumped out of the Excursion and began running toward the poochie, calling it at the top of my lungs, but I was too far away for my voice to be heard over the passing traffic. The poochie began to cross the lanes of traffic, as my heart began to sink into my stomach. Several cars were able to dodge him, but two semis came around the corner, side by side, and there was nothing that either one could do. Poochie was no more, and our family witnessed the whole incident. Our drive the rest of the way home was rather somber and silent.

In the afternoon, we stopped at a truck stop for a break (have I mentioned lately how great it is to pull your "house" behind you?!). As we were eating our lunch, the truck in the picture above pulled in a few spots away from us. The driver of the truck got out, fully covered with a bee keepers suit, and it was then that we realized his entire cargo consisted of BEES. They appeared to be in some sort of boxes covered with mesh material, but some of them had escaped. There were bees flying all around the truck, and then they started coming over to our trailer! We had to play dodge 'em as we all got back into the Excursion.

We arrived home around 8:00 in the evening, and were greeted by an explosion of roses in our front yard. My nearly wild roses were in full bloom, and this is the biggest crop they've yielded since we planted them. We have two beds alongside of the driveway near the street full of these roses too. A very wonderful welcome home!
